A Final Rest for Nanay Jessy

Nanay Jessy, 62, spent her life caring for her family. Her daughter Menchie — who works with our household — and the rest of the family worked night and day, doing everything they could to give her the same care in return.

When her health took a turn, she was confined for a month, battling heart problems, a stroke, diabetes, and eventually sepsis. Just a week into her hospital stay, the family's HMO coverage was already exhausted. From that point on, every peso of treatment came from the family's own pockets — money earned by working long hours, plus whatever government assistance they could apply for and receive.

They gave everything they had to keep her fighting. But despite their best efforts, Nanay Jessy passed away.

She leaves behind 7 children and 11 grandchildren, several of whom are still studying. In her daughter Menchie's own words:

"Grabe gyud ang iyahang pag antos ug wala na namo sya na isturya sukad sya na hospital tungod dili na sya maka isturya. Pero ma feel namo gihapon na miskin siya ang ga daot, kami gihapon ang iyahang gi huna2x. Maong dili nako ma dawat na dili namo siya mapahiluna ug insakto."

(Translation: "Her suffering was truly immense, and we could no longer talk to her from the moment she was hospitalized because she could no longer speak. But we could still feel that even though she was the one suffering, we were still the ones on her mind. That's why I can't accept not being able to lay her to rest properly.")

Now Menchie and her family face a new weight: laying her mother to rest. Having used up their savings and support during her confinement, they are struggling to cover the ₱22,000 balance still owed on the coffin, with the remaining funeral expenses expected to reach ₱30,000 or more.

Time is short — the balance needs to be settled by Saturday, September 27, 12:00 NN, so that Nanay Jessy can be laid to rest as planned on Sunday, September 28.
