Hiring the right person can make a huge difference for a business. But for many small companies, recruitment is still done with limited tools, limited time, and limited resources.

I’m building Recruitment Buddy, an AI-assisted recruitment tool designed to give recruiters and small hiring teams a more thoughtful second pair of eyes when screening candidates.

Why I’m building this

I’ve spent years working in recruitment, and one thing I’ve learned is that hiring is rarely as simple as comparing a resume against a Job Description.

A Job Description may say one thing, but when you actually sit down with a Hiring Manager, you often discover what they really care about.

For example, a role might ask for a certain number of years of experience, but the Hiring Manager may say that strong recruitment performance and leadership experience matter more. They may prefer BPO experience, but still consider candidates from staffing, RPO, agency, or corporate recruitment if their experience is transferable.

Those details can make a major difference when evaluating candidates.

What makes Recruitment Buddy different?

Many AI recruitment tools focus primarily on matching resumes against Job Descriptions.

Recruitment Buddy is being designed around a different idea:

It should understand how a company actually hires.

The system can bring together information such as:

• The Job Description

• Hiring Manager calibration notes

• Recruiter feedback

• Candidate resumes

• Candidate questionnaires

• Interview outcomes

• Progression and rejection patterns

• Historical hiring feedback

From this information, Recruitment Buddy can help build an evolving Role Benchmark that reflects both the documented requirements of the role and the hiring team's actual priorities.

When a candidate is assessed, the goal isn't simply to ask, "How many keywords from the Job Description appear on this resume?"

Instead, Recruitment Buddy should help answer:

What does the candidate's submitted information actually demonstrate?

What is only claimed or inferred?

What information is still unknown?

What should the recruiter verify during an interview?

For example, if a Job Description requires night-shift availability but the resume doesn't mention the candidate's schedule preference, Recruitment Buddy shouldn't automatically treat that as a failure.

It should identify it as something the recruiter needs to verify.

The same principle applies to things like communication skills, motivation, salary expectations, work preferences, and other factors that cannot reliably be determined from a resume alone.

Built to assist recruiters, not replace them

Recruitment Buddy is not intended to make hiring decisions on behalf of companies.

The recruiter remains responsible for deciding whether a candidate should move forward.

The AI is there to organize information, identify evidence and gaps, maintain calibration, and provide another perspective so recruiters can spend more time on meaningful conversations with candidates and Hiring Managers.

Why small businesses?

Larger companies may have access to expensive Applicant Tracking Systems, recruitment analytics, dedicated sourcing tools, and other technology.

Smaller businesses often don't.

Sometimes the person reviewing applications is an HR generalist, a single recruiter, an operations manager, or even the business owner.

I want to explore whether thoughtful AI-assisted recruitment technology can be made accessible to these smaller teams without requiring a huge technology budget.

What the funds will support

This fundraiser will help me continue developing and testing Recruitment Buddy, including:

• Software development and infrastructure

• AI/API usage during development and testing

• Secure data and document storage

• Security and privacy improvements

• User testing with recruiters

• Product improvements based on real-world feedback

• Future maintenance and development

I'm starting small because I want to validate the idea before making major investments.

If Recruitment Buddy proves useful, the long-term goal is to turn it into a reliable recruitment tool that can help companies make more informed, evidence-based hiring decisions.

I'm building this because recruitment is something I genuinely care about, and I believe better technology shouldn't be limited to companies with large budgets.

Smarter hiring decisions. Built for humans.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Recruitment Buddy and for supporting the project.
