A Breadwinner’s Plea: Support for My Dialysis Patient Uncle
My name is Princess, and I am writing this with a heavy but hopeful heart on behalf of my beloved uncle, Joel Benito. While he is legally my uncle, I call him Papa, because he is the only true father I have ever known. For the past 16 years, I have been the anchor for my original family in the Philippines. My biological father passed away when I was 8, and my mother left me when I was a baby. I was raised by my late grandmother (who passed away in 2021), my aunt (who lives with a disability), and my uncle. It was my uncle who stepped in, protected me, and became my Papa.Today, my Papa urgently needs our help.Back in 2018, he was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease and has been a dialysis patient for 8 long years. Anyone who handles dialysis knows the crushing financial and emotional toll. In the Philippines, the cost of regular treatments, maintenance medicines, and routine laboratory tests is incredibly expensive. No one else in their household is physically able to work due to disability. Living here in South Korea, we are blessed to live a stable, normal life where basic needs are met. For many years, my husband was the one working hard to support both our own kids and my family back home. However, my husband faces his own heavy financial struggles providing for our two growing children and their education. Two years ago, I finally got my own job. Out of love and respect for my husband, I took over 100% of the financial responsibility for my Papa and aunt so he wouldn't have to carry that burden anymore. But my Papa has now been confined in the hospital for almost a week. He is currently fighting pneumonia, and his creatinine levels have spiked dangerously high, causing him to experience terrifying episodes of delirium and confusion. While I am grateful for a stable life in Korea, I have only been working for 2 years on a normal salary. There is a massive difference between earning enough for daily life and being able to afford a sudden, catastrophic medical emergency in another country. With ICU fees, heavy antibiotics, and ongoing dialysis, the bills are piling up rapidly. I simply cannot handle this weight alone anymore. My Promise to You: Running and Hiking for Papa's Life. I do not expect your help without giving something back. Running and hiking are my favorite ways to stay strong .To honor your generosity, I will match my Papa's fight in the hospital with my own sweat on the trails. For every milestone we reach in this fundraiser, I will complete dedicated runs, and eventually, a major mountain hike exceeding my personal record to thank you all from the summit. I will share my running app updates right here so you can trace my steps as we fight for his life together. Every single peso or dollar counts. Any amount you can share will directly go toward his hospital bills and ongoing care. If you cannot give financially, please pray for his recovery and share this link. Please live a healthy life. Life is too short. Take care of your health and cherish your loved ones.Thank you so much, and may God bless your generous hearts. With love and gratitude.
