A Story of Unwavering Courage

Our beautiful baby girl, Kaia Elisha Rayos Magnaye, came into the world nearly three months premature on January 9, 2026, weighing just 1.2 kg. Since her very first breath, her life has been a relentless battle against overwhelming odds—yet she has proven time and again to be an absolute warrior.

Kaia survived a grueling 88 days in the NICU, fighting through pneumonia, sepsis, and weeks on mechanical ventilation. Just as she cleared those life-threatening hurdles, she was diagnosed on April 29 with Stage 3–4 Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP), requiring urgent laser eye surgery to protect her sight from permanent blindness.

A New Emergency at PCMC

Just as we dared to hope for her recovery, our world was shattered again on June 9. A cranial ultrasound revealed Congenital Hydrocephalus with Aqueduct Stenosis and Cerebral Edema—a severe buildup of fluid placing dangerous pressure on her tiny brain.

We immediately rushed Kaia from our home province to the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) in Manila. On June 17, she underwent a high-risk, 3.5-hour brain surgery to insert a VP Shunt to drain the excess fluid. While her neurosurgical team successfully placed the shunt, routine testing delivered another devastating blow: Kaia had contracted Meningitis, a dangerous and aggressive brain infection.

The Current Fight: 7 Weeks and Counting

Kaia has now been hospitalized at PCMC for nearly 7 weeks continuously. Her medical team has had to extend her hospital stay two weeks at a time because her active brain infection simply refuses to clear.

Recent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) lab work shows her white blood cell count ranging between 65 and 116—far above the normal range of 0 to 10.

Because her infection remains active, her doctors cannot safely discharge her. She remains on heavy, continuous IV antibiotics, needing constant monitoring, frequent lab testing, and specialized pediatric care until her white blood cell count drops to safe levels and the infection is completely cleared.

To keep Kaia’s daily treatment moving forward without interruption, we need to cover the following ongoing costs:
